The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) was set up by the Government to market and promote Botswana as a premier tourist destination, to grade and classify tourist facilities as well as to promote investment and drive product diversification in the tourism sector.
BTO priorities are mainly focused on product diversification and on providing high quality service standards and embarking on strategies that exceed customer expectations as well as building customer confidence locally and internationally. This is in line with the organisational vision of ‘developing Botswana into a unique preferred tourism destination of choice, in order to increase the sector’s contribution to the nation’s economic growth’.
As part of its efforts to reach this goal, BTO is constantly repositioning the tourism image of Botswana with a view to inspire, engage travellers with fresh, powerful images and beautiful stories that captures the beauty of Botswana; in addition to the positive contribution of the tourism sector to the local Batswana.
Insight
A good example is the organisation’s website, which contains just about everything that potential visitors need to know regarding travel in and around Botswana. The website gives an insight into what’s on offer in Botswana as well as providing useful travel information and advice. The website even suggests a list of books to read for those interested in visiting the country.
Dedicated to preserving the heritage and environment of Botswana, the organisation has established several conservation policies and ecotourism strategies to ensure that tourism is sustainable for its inhabitants and future generations while still contributing meaningfully to the national economy.
Although relatively new in its development, BTO has already proved to be a well-run and fully functioning organisation, one that will continue to serve as a competitive front-runner in promoting Botswana as a destination of choice.
